Odon Lafontaine is back on Pfanderfilms Youtube channel with Jay Smith for a 5th video on Islam's origins.

This is an addendum to the previous video, where Jay and Odon went off on an aside, unpacking the word 'Kuffar' which means to cover. In the discussion they noted that the Jews had covered many of the original stories found in the Bible, which led the two to talk about the many sources for those stories and references found in the Qur'an.

Jay pointed out that Surah 2:78-79 warned the readers not to trust any Jewish writings written by men which did not agree with the previous scriptures; yet, there are many of these very stories in the Qur'an itself (i.e. Surah 5:31-32, borrowed from the Targum of Jonathan Ben Uzziah (verse 31), and from the Bar Sanhedrin 4:5 (verse 32); or Surah 21:51-71, borrowed from the Mishnah of Rabbah; or Surah 27:17-44, borrowed from the 2 Targum of Esther, all Apocryphal Jewish writings from the 2nd - 5th centuries AD).

It is obvious that much of the material, including the stories and the poetry in the Qur'an did not originate in heaven, as the Standard Islamic Narrative (SIN) suggests, but were borrowed from other pre-existing Jewish and Christian writings which were popular in that area and at that time, all written in Arabic.

Odon points to some new books and articles which have come out by Guillaume Dye (pronounced 'Dee') on the subject, and Jay referenced the book on the 'Original Sources of the Qur'an', published by W St. Claire Tisdall in the last century, proving that this research has been out and available for over a century, yet few knew or talk about it, possibly because of the fear of the kickback by Muslims who refuse to believe that the Qur'an could be anything else but eternal and unfettered by human hands.

This all leads up to what we will be looking at later with Thomas Alexander, from Germany, who will be introducing us to some even more xciting new research by Christoph Luxenberg on this very subject, so stay tuned!
