Great Inagua

"We'll make something of it in time. We could keep a fleet here, if we liked. And with a bit of fixing up, it'd be a decent place to call home." ―Edward Kenway to Mary Read, March 1716.

In the early 18th century, the island was used as a lair by the French Templar Julien ducasse. In September 1715, in order to reclaim the Templar’s galleon, El Arca del Maestro, to improve the defences of the city of Nassau, the pirate Edward Kenway infiltrated the island and killed the duke. As a result, Edward took possession of the island, the encampment and the villa built on the promontory overlooking the bay.

In the following years, Edward Kenway used a portion of the proceeds of his raids in the development of the settlement on the island, improving the pier, the beach and the villa itself. He also commissioned the construction of a tavern, a emporium, a port, and a brothel.
