➡️ What is a Pulse Oximeter?
A Pulse Oximeter is a device that is used to quickly and easily monitor a person’s oxygen saturation. This means that is can measure the level of oxygen within the blood, specifically in arterial blood without using any invasive means.

➡️ Oxygen Reader Definition
You may have heard a pulse oximeter referred to as an oxygen reader. That is because the device uses advanced technology to read the oxygen saturation levels of arterial blood. In general, the terms pulse oximeter and oxygen reader can be used interchangeably to describe this type of device. An oxygen reader is used to look at a patient's oxygen saturation levels which means that it can measure the level of oxygen in arterial blood without using any invasive means. It is typically a small, portable device that clips onto the finger and provides a reading within seconds. In addition to measuring oxygen saturation, this device can provide a heart rate measurement as well.

➡️ Arterial Blood Flow
Blood flows through the heart and lungs to pick up oxygen molecules where it is then pumped through arteries to all of the tissues of the body. If there is a lack of oxygen in the blood, it means that your body tissues will not be oxygenated properly and this can be hazardous to your health and can be an indication of serious pulmonary issues. That is why it’s so important to use an oxygen reader (i.e. a pulse oximeter). Respiratory Therapists, doctors, and other medical professionals use these devices to constantly monitor their patient’s oxygen levels which helps provide a better understanding of their overall cardiopulmonary status.
