VN24- 17-05-2022 - Hagen A1 / Germany - Accident on the A1 freeway shortly before the Hagen West junction. In northbound direction, the traffic had slowed down to a standstill. A 62-year-old driver in his tipper trailer recognized this too late at about 15:44 hours and drove exactly at the level of the Funckenhausen rest area onto the silo train almost stopped in front of him, which was driven by a 50'-year-old man. Due to the force of the impact, the silo truck was pushed onto another tractor-trailer. The driver of the dump truck was trapped in his cab and had to be freed by the fire department. He was then resuscitated by emergency personnel and airlifted by helicopter to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Valves broke on the silo truck, causing a large amount of lime to spill onto the road. A towing company took care of the recovery of the vehicles. The road was cleaned until the early hours of the morning. Spilled diesel fuel meant that soil had to be removed from the edge of the road.
