VN24 - 03-04-2024 (D/M/Y) - Dortmund Airport - Germany - A minor aircraft accident occurred at around 11:44 a.m. on Wednesday when a sports aircraft crash-landed at the western end of the runway at Dortmund Airport. According to initial reports from the pilot, there were technical issues with the 250hp engine of the 4-seater Commander 114B. Due to a sudden loss of power, the small aircraft was unable to gain altitude and broke through the upper part of a fence at the end of the runway, crossed a road and then landed rather roughly on a field behind the airport property, causing minor injuries to the two occupants. The emergency services took them to hospital for a check-up, but they were able to leave later. Due to a minor transmission error about the weight of the aircraft, a 250-ton crane was initially called to the scene to recover the wreckage, but this could only have been set up after 10 p.m. due to the ongoing flight operations at the airport. So in the end, after the aircraft had been trimmed to transport size with fairly simple methods, a cable winch and the loading crane of a tow truck were used for the remaining ~900 kg (~2000 lbs).
