My best bike rack is the Saris Freedom SuperClamp 2, a rack designed to grip a bike by the tires instead of the frame. This eliminates any chance of marring the frame finish during transport, and eliminates any potential issues hauling dual suspension bikes. I purchased the SuperClamp over 6 years ago.
