In Illinois, a former mayor will investigate the allegations of misused public funds of a sitting mayor.

Dolton trustees hired former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot as a special investigator to investigate the allegations against Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard.

Lightfoot will lead an independent investigation into corruption claims, reckless spending, and retaliation.

Henyard became the first woman mayor in Dolton's 103-year history in 2021.
