The lawsuit accuses the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs of systematically denying Black vets their due housing, education, and disability benefits since the adoption of the 1944 GI Bill can move forward after a federal judge rejected the government's effort to dismiss the case.

Former U.S. Marine Conley Monk Jr. and the National Veterans Council for Legal Redress filed the lawsuit.

Monk was exposed to Agent Orange and suffered PTSD resulting from his experiences in Vietnam.
The suit claims Monk was denied veterans unemployment insurance in 1971, education benefits in 1976, disability benefits in 1981, and a home loan in 1983. The pattern of rejection continued in 2010 and 2012 when Monk was denied veterans disability benefits after suffering a stroke.

OLu Oisaghie, a Yale law student working with the Veterans Legal Services Clinic on this case spoke with Roland Martin about the importance of this case.
