Tests here seeking to compare different R7 firmware sensitivities against a police Ka source hiding around a corner. The tests here primarily demonstrate:

1) The importance of reflections for long range radar detections.

2) Comparing different radar detectors even on the same course on the same day can give potentially misleading results. Therefore when comparing and testing different detectors, always make multiple runs and try to choose a time and/or location where there is minimal traffic on the course.

3) Never run multiple detectors at the same time, even if you could account for interference, small changes in the mounting angle or position in your car when multiplied over long range can make a big difference to getting an alert from that lucky reflection or not.

The video also ends with a final long range test on the course which shows just how sensitive these long range detectors are (even when there is no direct line of sight to the gun and also buildings, foliage etc. along the length of the course). This final test reinforces why getting that early warning can be important if you’re driving long distance and/or may be faced with instant on. You cannot detect a radar gun when it is not emitting radar. Therefore, do take every Ka alert seriously and consider the officer could well be parked several kilometers up the road just waiting for the right opportunity.
