If you're facing charges for driving under the influence or any other DUI related offense, and you've chosen to take a blood test, you could be waiting a while to get your blood results. In Colorado currently, Today is June 11 2022. What we have in Colorado right now is we only have one place testing blood, that CBI, the Colorado Bureau of Investigations. So what happens is when you get your blood drawn at the hospital or at the police station, the law enforcement officer who is responsible for that blood draw then takes the blood and sends it to CBI. CBI is the only place in all of Colorado that's doing these blood tests. But the key to know is they're also doing all the other tests. So all of the rape cases, all of the murder cases, all of the DNA evidence it's having to go through and be processed on every single case in the entire state of Colorado is going to CBI. So what that means is your blood is also going to CBI with all of these other cases. Generally, what we're seeing right now is we're seeing it take anywhere from three to nine months to get blood results back. And that can be good or it can be bad. It depends on the specific facts of your case. But there are times that the the blood has been lost in certain cases or it's damaged because of this high volume of work. So CBI could drop a file and then all of the evidence has gone against you. Sometimes they can be mislabeled, sometimes it can get damaged in transport when they're sent in the mail to CBI. But generally speaking blood results do take quite a while and you'll probably have your first or even second court date at court before we even have blood results because of that backlog that we have currently in the state of Colorado.
