“What does love have to teach us at a time of war and conflict and bombing?” asks Omid Safi, scholar of Rumi and the Sufi path of “Radical Love.” The world is not divided between good and bad people, he reminds us in this Festival of Faiths talk, but rather this is a struggle within each of us — and we are called to embody love despite our differences.

“We cannot bomb our way into peace. Peace is not the destination, it is the path,” says Safi, who also serves as professor of Islamic Studies at Duke University, has authored books including Memories of Muhammad, a biography of the Prophet Muhammad, and hosts the podcast “Sufi Heart.”
