Duck Syndrome: A Pandemic That Needs to Be Discussed

Ducks appear calm on the surface of the water while paddling furiously beneath it.

Duck Syndrome explains that what's really going on beneath the surface of success and achievement is totally different from what you see on the outside.

This has become a pandemic in the age of social media. How?

1. Tendency to show that everything’s okay when it’s not actually:

As we move forward, being on social media become more complicated.

Photos are becoming more luxurious and more HD, showing happier faces every day.

And we feel a need to keep up with that!

We travel just to take photos, do odd things story-telling worthy, and buy eye-catching items to show we're too deserve likes and congratulations.

This caused people to focus on the surface of their life to maintain appearances.

The more you focus on the surface, the more you end up with unsolved problems in your real life.

Like Photoshop can fix a spoiled tooth, but is it truly fixed in reality?

2. Comparing your behind-the-scenes with others' highlight reel:

The human mind is wonderful!

I see a picture of two people kissing each other at a fancy beach, holding red wines, and I think to myself: “Oh, that must be pure love!”

Then it reminds me how I don’t have that in my own life!

“You must be a loser then,” my mind decides.

All because of a frame in the life of two strangers I saw on my IG timeline.

Isn’t it better to judge their love life based on more data (or not judge it at all) and my own based on my values?

“No, the most comfortable answer to think of is that you’re a loser!” the mind says.

The point is, no one can actually know what’s happening in your life. No one but you. It applies to everyone.

Our judgments are often inaccurate even when we have information, let alone when it’s just a couple of photos and reels.

The truth is,
there’s no success without failures.
No love without fights.
No fun without getting bored.

Life’s a full package, with its ups and downs.

Don’t feel left behind because you’re not in the exact situation as someone else is showing off,
and don’t spend your focus on polishing your life’s surface when it's underneath that needs your attention.
