Ah, the 80s! A decade of big hair, big dreams, and even bigger shoulder pads. It was the era of the "yuppie" - a breed of people who believed money could buy happiness, and a lot of other things too. We had blockbuster movies left and right, but let's not forget the birth of MTV. That's right, music videos! Suddenly, we had a whole new way to enjoy our favorite tunes, and the music industry was never the same. Of course, it also gave us a whole lot of one-hit wonders, but hey, they were hits nonetheless. And while all this was going on, American cars were going through some changes too. It was a time of transition - a time when cars were getting smaller, but still trying to keep up with the big boys. Think of it like a middle school growth spurt - awkward, but necessary.

THIS IS THE STORY OF THE TOP 5 LUXURY CARS IN THE 80S

Most American vehicles at the time were making the switch from rear-wheel to front-wheel drive. Cars were getting smaller and smaller as motor displacement shrank. In the 1980s, six-cylinder engines and four-cylinder engines both rose to prominence as alternatives to v8 engines. As a result, many American luxury automobiles that began the 1980s as large, rear-wheel drive, v8-powered vehicles ended the decade as smaller, front-wheel drive, v6-powered vehicles.

Despite the difficult economic climate of the 1980s, American manufacturers of high-end automobiles still produced some classic examples of their genre. In this video, we go over the top five luxury automobiles produced during the 1980s.
