This month’s case study presentation is with Dr. Christina O'Brien on endometriosis and the estrobolome.

Research suggests that women with endometriosis have an altered estrobolome, with a lower diversity of bacteria and changes in the types of bacteria present. Specifically, women with endometriosis tend to have a higher abundance of bacteria that produce beta-glucuronidase, and enzyme that can increase estrogen levels in the body. While more research is needed to fully understand the relationship between the estrobolome and endometriosis, these findings suggest that targeting the gut microbiome may be a potential avenue for future treatments for this condition. Dr. O'Brien discusses the connection between endometriosis and the estrobolome and uses a DUTCH case study to further illustrate the interaction between the two.
