“E Mare Libertas” (English: “From the Sea, Freedom”) is the national anthem of Sealand. It was composed by Basil Simonenko with no lyrics written. The title is also the micronation’s motto.

Sealand was originally an abandoned WW2 fort built by the British to protect onshore merchant vessels until it was occupied by British pirate radio broadcaster Roy Bates, who declared the fort independent as the Principality of Sealand in 1967. The micronation experienced a brief rebellion in 1978 and a fire tragedy in 2006. It does not gain any official recognition from any country, though Germany had de facto recognised the micronation as it once sent a diplomat there.
