We called this unique experience "the great escape", because it felt so unique leaving Balabac this way... as if we were off to Malaysia!

In this video, we join our friend Tamin's father as he goes to visit a friend in Bataraza. We had the opportunity to ride one of the local giant boats called "Lantsa", and it was such an amazing experience. Along the way to the mainland and Bataraza, we stop by Capayas Island. This beautiful sandy island sits just a few kilometers off the coast. From there, we eat some local dried fish, say goodbye, and head into a barangay to find motorbikes. We also find local boat makers... there are so many here!

Getting back on our scooter at Buliluyan Port, we head to the main town of Bataraza, and find ourselves staying at a local Tausug coffee shop and hotel.

The great Philippines escape... at least from Balabac Islands to the mainland!
