Thomas Chatterton Williams is a writer and public intellectual. His books, "Self-Portrait in Black and White: Unlearning Race" and "Losing My Cool: Love, Literature and a Black Man's Escape From the Crowd," have stirred controversy over the concepts of race and ethnic identity.
