The 2023 Nissan Frontier SV could very well be the perfect everyday truck: affordable, reliable, decent MPG, good looks and enough utility for the average weekend warrior. Available in 4 different trim levels for 2023 (Nissan adds 2 more trims including a retro-inspired Hardbody trim for 2024), your options range from the base S work truck for about $30K all the way up to the $40K Pro4X trim which offers all the off-road fun your heart desires. Our test vehicle was a $34K Frontier SV, the 2nd most expensive trim.

The Frontier also comes available with two different bed lengths - a 5’ or 6’ bed, which can be paired with either 2 or 4 doors. No matter what setup you choose, a 3.8L V6 pumping out 310hp is the only option. Inside, there are some obvious cost-cutting choices (lots of plastic, no auto climate control) but in all, it’s a comfortable interior with the basic modern amenities American drivers have come to expect. You can upgrade the 8” standard touchscreen to a 9” screen; that center dash display complements a smaller 7” digital gauge that sits between an analog tachometer and speedometer behind the steering wheel.

Even on the 4 door crew cab, room in the rear is tight; tall folks will certainly be cramped. Rear seats do pull up out of the way though for cargo, or can go fully flat, depending on your needs. While this isn’t a super duty dually, if you want a truck with a car-like feel, this is a good contender. If you require more robust towing or payload capacity, the Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon or Ford Ranger might be a better choice. So, is the Frontier for you?
