The 2024 Toyota Tundra may not match American trucks in towing and payload capacities, but it does still deliver quite a punch in its quest to compete in a market dominated by Detroit.

For 2024, the Tundra gets a few cosmetic updates but remains largely unchanged from when this design was unveiled in 2022. There are a few new things though, like the 12.3” center touchscreen is now standard on the Limited trim, the heads up display is now a free-standing option, and a 3” factory lift kit can be had on any trim except the TRD Pro, because it has a lift kit of its own. Speaking of trims, there are 7 to choose from: the base SR starts around $40K while the top-tier Capstone trim flirts with $80K when all is said and done. Our test car is a Limited truck, with the blacked out wheels and grille (it’s called the Nightshade package).

Three levels of power are available, all based on a 3.4 liter twin-turbo V6. In the base SR model, it’s tuned for 348hp and 405 lb. ft. of torque; in all other models it’s tuned for 389hp and 479 lb. ft. of torque. There is a hybrid set up too, which pumps out 473hp. All engines are mated to a smooth 10-speed automatic transmission. The Tundra’s interior is a great place to be, with higher grade materials than in past versions and designed with an eye for the details.

Buttons are everywhere, from drive mode selections to RWD or 4WD, bed dome lights, even a big chunky knob for your audio controls. It’s utility-esque with just enough everyday car sprinkled in so you don’t feel like you’re driving a semi. A 12-speaker JBL sound system is standard on the Limited trim and up, and it delivers quite a bit of bass. But does the Tundra deliver ENOUGH to dethrone Detroit? LET US KNOW BELOW!
