VN24 - 08/05/2021 - Dortmund / Germany - The 49-year-old driver of a small truck (7.5t) was driving eastbound on Mallinckrodtstraße in Dortmund towards the city center and intended to cross the Huckarder Straße / Dorstfelder Allee intersection at the Huckarde exit at around 09:19. The traffic lights there were not active at the time and, according to the police, had failed. While crossing, he presumably disregarded the right of way of a 40-ton semitrailer truck traveling southbound on Huckarder Straße and rammed into its side. The 56-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer lost control of his truck and was deflected to the right, where he drove over a sidewalk and bike path shortly after the intersection and landed with the tractor in a deep ditch. Both drivers of the vehicle sustained minor injuries in the accident and were taken to a hospital for further treatment. A heavy-duty tow truck, as well as a mobile crane, had to be used to recover the fully loaded tractor-trailer. The intersection was closed for the duration of the accident and cleanup.
