As the most popular movie franchise in history, the images of these particular actors playing these iconic roles are pretty etched into our brains at this point. We see Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, or Chris Evans as Captain America. But things were almost very, very different. Sure, a lot of actors probably auditioned for these main character roles, but did you know that a lot of actors in the MCU actually originally auditioned to play another part? Like, they went in expecting to be something else, but then, for whatever reason, an audible was called and now they’re locked in as the character we know and love.

In this video, we’ll dive into a bunch of different instances where an actor auditioned for a different role other than the one they ended up portraying in the MCU. There’s a lot of people involved in this franchise, with a lot of big names playing a lot of memorable characters, so it’s fascinating to see what could have been. What would the MCU be like if someone else was Captain America? Or if someone other than Robert Downey Jr ended up playing Iron Man? Would these movies have taken off the way they did or seen the same type of success? Who knows! But it’s fun to think about what could have been, and what ALMOST was.
