Thanks to my day job at Kelley Blue Book, I drive and review lots of cars. The Acura NSX is not one of them. Acura kindly invited me and my wife Evie to shoot a Micah Drives road trip review a 2019 Acura NSX. We motored from Los Angeles to central California’s iconic Laguna Seca racetrack. Along the way the 2019 NSX proved itself as a surprisingly comfortable long-distance supercar.

Our goal was to comfortably cover ground but that didn’t stop us from exploiting the NSX’s massive performance potential. Our meandering route let us take advantage of the supercar’s outstanding lateral grip, powerful carbon ceramic brakes, and breathtaking acceleration. That last feature is made possible by a 3.5L twin-turbo V6 making 500 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. Supplementing the V6’s output are 3 electric motors, one for each front tire and a 3rd assisting the the rear wheels, for a total system output of 573 horsepower and 476 lb-ft of torque. Managing power from the V6 is a 9-speed dual-clutch transmission.

With all that technology working in unison the Acura NSX is capable of 0-60 acceleration in a fast 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 191 mph. At the same time the 2019/2020 NSX returns decent fuel economy for a supercar (21city /22hwy). The grand total for all this power and performance is $159,300…and that’s without options. Our Casino White Pearl test car landed at a lofty $194,700, including $21,000 worth of carbon fiber accessories. With the arrival of the new mid-engine 2020 C8 Chevrolet Corvette that price might be hard to swallow. Then again, where supercars are concerned, practical concerns rarely rank at the top of the consideration list. Which might explain why the NSX sales have struggled.

With an inherently emotional purchase like a supercar, there’s no one correct answer. However, the comfort, performance, sporty but tasteful styling, and manageable trunk space of the Acura NSX makes it one of our favorites.
