The Peregrine Fund's World Center for Birds of Prey is throwing our hat into the ever-growing pantheon of avian Super Bowl prognosticators! This video features Grayson, the Center’s Harpy Eagle, making his best raptor choice for the winner of Super Bowl LVII. He has a choice of two colored boxes, decorated with each team’s insignia on the side and… wait for it… a piece of meat as incentive on top of each box! Will he choose Kansas City or Philadelphia?

This fun exercise is part of our avian ambassadors' ongoing enrichment program, designed to keep all of our raptors engaged, alert and interested in new things in their environment. Varied feeding times, different diet yummies (including chicken, quail, rabbit, rat, and mouse), opportunities to play with objects and explore different colors, textures, and especially smells connected with their dietary rotation—plus expert staff daily monitoring each individual bird’s health issues, weight and exercise —all help to contribute to the considerable extension of the lives of birds in captivity. As a very special example, our Bataleur Eagle named Kwang is 54 years old, and that species has an average lifespan of 25-30 years!

Grayson is going to celebrate his 21st birthday this spring and is in stellar condition. Harpy Eagles average lifespan is around 30 years in the wild and we feel confident that he will be wowing guests at the center for many years to come. He has gained quite a fan club in his years with us and has pushed Skye, our big female Bald Eagle who greets guests near the gift shop, for "favorite bird at the WCBOP!"
