Replacing the Seals on a Log Splitter Hydraulic Cylinder

This video shows how to replace the seals on a log splitter hydraulic cylinder.

1) Remove the gland capture bolt/washer
2) Tap the cylinder gland into the cylinder about 1" or less to expose the retaining ring
3) Remove the retaining ring
4) Secure the hydraulic cylinder so you can pull the cylinder rod out
5) Pull the cylinder rod out with force, the cylinder rod is connected to the piston which will force the gland out.
6) Slide the gland off the cylinder rod
7) Use a pick to remove the old seals. Stab each seal to remove to ensure you don't scratch the piston or gland.
8) Inspect all components for wear and damage
9) Replace all the seals and grease them
10) Put the cylinder rod/piston assembly back into the cylinder. You might need to wiggle the assembly to get it completely in.
11) Slide the cylinder gland onto the rod and push the glad into the cylinder. You might need to tap the gland into the cylinder using a mallet. Use caution not to damage the seals. insert the gland just past the retaining ring groove.
12) Replace the cylinder retaining ring
13) Replace the gland capture bolt/washer.
14) Reattach the cylinder to the hydraulic system and slowly pressurize
