In the last video we showed you what's inside a hydraulic cylinder, (here's the link in case you missed it:    • How Does a Hydraulic Cylinder Work?  ). This video will show the steps to repair a hydraulic cylinder. I have to be honest, I had thought about doing this job myself, but I am sure glad I didn't make that choice. Like a lot of things, there's way more to this repair than it looks like from a distance.

I'm visiting today with Hoot, a good friend of mine who I worked with at S & H Farm Supply in Rogersville, Missouri, for 11 years. Hoot is an amazing technician, one of those guys that can fix something right the first time, in fact I've never heard of a repair he did that had to come back to the shop.

Hoot goes over the placement of all the seals, wipers, spacers and other little rubber stuff that pretty much looks the same to me, and how to get the lips faced the right direction and the special tools needed to complete the job. Anytime I'm watching Hoot explain something to me, I think he's speaking Chinese part of the time because I don't fully understand all of the technical terms, all I know is he knows a lot more about the function of each individual part than I ever will, and I trust him to repair my tractor a lot more than I trust me to do it.

If you're repacking your own hydraulic cylinder, this will help you make sure you get everything back in right, for most of us, this video will convince us to find a guy, like Hoot, in our area, and pay them whatever they ask to do it for us. For 99% of my audience, myself included, we'd be way better to go that direction than try to DIY. Had I put this seal kit in myself, I'm very convinced I would have ended up coming to Hoot with a leaking cylinder and my tail between my legs, asking if he could repair my "fix". The really good technicians hate fixing other people's mistakes, so the best advice is to take it to them in the first place.

This video shows the kind of expertise you get when you patronize your local dealership and why their shop labor rate may be, what seems like, a little high. This level of repair has great value, and its something I'd highly recommend you invest in for problems of this type.
