Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra both feature some of the greatest, fun-loving heroes we’ve ever seen. Korra and Aang are both beacons of hope and perseverance in the face of evil. We see them use the unbelievable power of the Avatar State but always in the service of justice or spiritual peace. Well, that and the occasional boost in an airbending race.

As much as we love to see them use these amazing powers, we often don’t think about how easily things could have gone another way. Korra and Aang are true heroes but if they would’ve been anything but, the franchise could’ve been terrifying. Can you imagine a world where the Avatar was evil instead of a true force for good? What if the Avatar were one of the monstrous villains we meet in the series?

First, let’s reanalyze some of the greatest moments from both Avatars. We will look at these heroic exploits without our love of the characters clouding our judgement. Some of these moments that seemed awesome at the time could very easily have been the most terrifying thing ever if these same powers were used for evil.

After that, we’ll theorize what would’ve happened if the Avatar had been either a certain evil fire bending princess or a brutally efficient Earth Empire conqueror. Then you can decide which one would be better at global conquest!

So let’s dive right in as we figure out what would happen if the Avatar was evil!
