Avatar the Last Airbender pushes the creative limits of its magic system. To incorporate martial arts with the elements was a stroke of genius and its something we have not seen since. Each element is represented by an entire culture and nation. Fire is the element of power. The people of the Fire Nation have desire and will and the energy and drive to achieve what they want. Earth is the element of substance. The people of the Earth Kingdom are diverse and strong. They are persistent and enduring. Air is the element of freedom. The Air Nomads detached themselves from worldly concerns and found peace and freedom. Also, they apparently had pretty good senses of humor. Water is the element of change. The people of the Water Tribes are capable of adapting to many things. They have a sense of community and love that holds them together through anything. These mantras help make the world of Avatar feel lived in and real to the viewer. But what makes this world truly special is the ability to still create new things in an already rich world. Each element has within it its own sub elements of bending. Lavabending, Lightning, Bloodbending, all of these were new ways to bend created by special characters within the world of Avatar, and today we are gonna take a deep dive and explain each one.
