Spider-Man's greatest foes are a group of villains who combine to form the Sinister Six. For years, Sony Pictures has been working to bring them to the big screen. And we think they're doing that again, but they're seeding the team with characters from their interconnected villain-verse. Our theory is that the film will be made of anti-heroes like Venom, Morbius, Kraven the Hunter, and Vulture. But the team will be led by Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man.

Ad who could they face? A variant of Spider-Man, who has been taken over by the Carnage symbiote. This was the plot of the original Spider-verse story on Spider-Man: The Animated Series, and we would love to see it done on the big screen.

Sony has been wanting to make a Sinister 6 film for years. Drew Goddard–the former showrunner of Daredevil–was developing a movie and even completed a script.

Going all the way back to 2014, their obsession with a Sinister 6 film led to them completely botching The Amazing Spider-Man 2, a film that could have been amazing.

The original plan was to have The Sinister 6 take up their traditional role as a group of super villains wreaking havoc on New York City and going up against Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man.

After The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s poor reception, those plans began to crumble. Fast forward to 2016–Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are working together on an MCU version of the webslinger

But Sony is still producing films on their own featuring famous Spider-Man foes as protagonists in their own solo films.

So far we’ve seen two Venom films that portray Venom as a hero–a lethal protector if you will. Tom Hardy’s version of Eddie Brock is an all around good guy, without an evil bone in his body.

And while Venom needs the occasional reminder from Eddie that he can’t just go around eating people–Venom’s still a good guy.

It’s important to remember that Venom even aspires to be a superhero, he wants to help people and snack on bad guys.

We can assume that Morbius and Kraven will be handled the same way. Not as measured or principled as your typical superhero–but more in the vein of a Venom or a Deadpool anti-hero. They’re happy to get blood on their hands, as long as it’s the blood of bad guys.

Despite Sony’s original Sinister 6 film crumbling, they’re still building up to one. We think that this version of The Sinister 6 will be Sony’s answer to The Avengers and The Suicide Squad. A ragtag group of anti-heroes teaming up to save the day.

Now let’s take roll, who will be the members of this Sinister 6? Venom, Morbius, and Kraven are shoe ins–that leaves us three more spots to fill.

Spider-Man: No Way Home featured a multitude of different Spider-Verse characters in the purple reality breaking sky. Most prominently featured were Kraven the Hunter, Rhino, and Scorpion.

We know Kraven is getting his own film starring Aaron Taylor Johnson, so seeing that character teased in No Way Home makes us wonder if Rhino and Scorpion will get their own spinoff films.

I can solidly guarantee you that it won’t be Paul Geomotti’s Rhino but could we see the return of Michael Mando’s Mac Gargan AKA Scorpion? We did get a tease in the post credit scene of Spider-Man: Homecoming that he’d be returning.

Speaking of that post credit scene, we also have Michael Keaton’s Adrian Toomes who’ll be appearing in Morbius. Now whether he’s the exact same Vulture or a very similar variant has yet to be seen.

Keaton’s Vulture would fit in nicely with an anti-hero version of The Sinister 6. Yeah he was the villain of Spider-Man: Homecoming, but he isn’t evil. Like most Spider-Man villains, he was a victim of circumstance. In the Homecoming post credit scene, he even refuses to give up Spider-Man’s identity.

There’s also Black Cat and Silver Sable–two characters that have been rumored to be getting their own team up movie for a while now.

These characters also walk the line of good and bad. Sometimes a friend of Spider-Man,and sometimes a foe.

We think it’s unlikely we’ll see any of the villains from Spider-Man: No Way Home return again for a Sinister 6 film–because the movie ends with no longer having superpowers. Except for Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock, his cure was just fixing the inhibitor chip, he still has his mechanical arms.
