Yes, Myeong-dong, a Christmas special of a kind. You voted Myeong-dong as the most Christmas vibey DONG in Seoul. So here I go, Myeong-dong. Honestly, I never thought positively of this neighborhood ‘an overrated tourist trap’ was my conclusion after a few visits. Yes, I could buy my size shoes and a fancy face mask here and there, but the street food market – although delicious – was triple the price of the same food anywhere else in Seoul. Not to mention the pre-covid crowds, thousands of people crawling through narrow streets. But since I will explore ALL dongs, I must give Myeong-dong another try. Spoiler alert. After a new visit and an open mind, I also began to love Myeong-dong…yup.

네.. 명동! 크리스마스 스페셜 같은 편입니다. 많은 분들이 명동이 서울에서 가장 크리스마스 분위기가 나는 동으로 투표해주셨어요. 그래서 명동을 다녀왔습니다. 솔직히 저는 명동에 대해 긍정적으로 생각하지 않았고 '과대평가된 관광객 덫'이라고 생각했어요. 제 사이즈의 신발과 고급 마스크팩을 사야 한다면 가겠지만, 길거리 음식(맛있긴 합니다)은 서울 일반 지역의 세 배나 되니까요. 특히 코로나 전에는 좁은 골목에 사람들이 너무 많아 복잡했어요. 하지만 제 목표는 모든 동을 탐험하는 것이니까 명동에게 한번 더 기회를 주었습니다. 스포를 하자면.. 마음을 열고 방문한 명동과 제가 사랑에 빠졌다는 겁니다!
