The time for a video on a single truck has come once again. and while it doesn't look it, to me at least, we do have a good catch.

2997 is quite an interesting unit. In a sea of ACX Rapid Rails which all sound the same, this truck was and, in a way still is, a breath of fresh air. (Granted, a sister of it, 2988, got sent to my neighborhood, and I only know of another unit of the exact same configuration, that's it. [yes, I know there are more of them out there, SHUT UP.])

The truck, despite being fairly young, also has some pedigree. This truck was once part of Consolidated/Republic's lost contract in Hawaiian Gardens. From what I am able to gather, this was this truck's first assignment upon delivery to the yard sometime in 2016. As you know, the contract ended in 2018, which resulted in an absolute shi- I mean, the truck got displaced.

The truck got reassigned to Walnut Park, where it has operated since. In a way, it got more legitimate, as its original bland RS signboards got replaced with city-specific ones that features CDS prominently, and the wear makes it fit into the area better. As for me, I've been contempt with it. The lighter, raspy engine complimented the meaner, bassier roar of 2962. And, with less blue and green carts out on collection day, I got to see and hear something from this truck I rarely saw from 2962: takeoffs. I know for most these details don't matter, but it's these details that make a bond between you and the truck deeper and makes it more appreciated overall.
