For 2025 the Subaru Forester retains its pragmatic appeal but looks to attract more than just the pragmatists. The formula has been the same for decades and we’re now seeing more consideration of the other vehicles in the segment than in previous generations. One of the most exciting additions isn't here yet, but the Subaru Forester is getting a HYBRID. Stay tuned for more information as we get it.

You’ll know this is a Forester by its upright and boxy stance, the 2.5 liter boxer engine, standard All Wheel Drive, trademark ground clearance, and large cargo area (which can now be reached more easily with a kick sensor for opening the hatch). What Subaru hopes you see beyond that is an overall profile that has been sculpted more deliberately to bring more presence on the road, on the trail, and even in the parking lot. Exterior updates include new, slimmer headlights that frame a wider grill (with tail lights to match) as well as a few patterns worked in along the lower portion of plastic body cladding that bring a tasteful amount of dimension to an otherwise basic area of the crossover. For the first time ever you’ll be able to get 19 inch wheels on the Sport and Touring trims and these will come with either bronze or chrome accents respectively.

Where you start to see the larger changes is when you enter the cabin. Subaru is bringing the available 11.6 inch infotainment touchscreen to the Forester for the first time and its impact on the space is significant. This screen will make your Apple CarPlay and Android Auto easier to see but it will also convert a number of physical controls to the touchscreen. Qi wireless charging can be found in most trims alongside the ever more elusive 3.5mm audio jack. Changes have been made to the front seats based on current owner feedback and the driving experience is said to be improved. We weren’t able to test that on this first look but we’re told the chassis has been stiffened significantly and sound deadening panels have made their way into more of the vehicle. When you add everything up the refinements added should have a positive impact on the ownership experience and we can’t wait to spend some time behind the wheel to see for ourselves.
