Dr. Shabir Ally discusses taking oral medication, injections and intravenous treatment while fasting. He says that according to the legal maxims set out in classical jurisprudence, the fast is invalid and one must feed a poor person or make up those days later. Ultimately he advises that we leave it up to the person and God. If they feel feel that they're still fasting in keeping with spirit of Ramadan while protecting their body for the sake of God by using medication prescribed by doctors, then he won't stand in their way.
