This was the day before my mom went into coma because of a hospital doctor error. She was given Heparin for 10 days and she's highly allergic to it. Not only that, but seeing that she is severely dropping platelets, which is a big warning sign that she's allergic to Heparin, they gave her 2 bags of platelets on top of that. You never give someone who is allergic to Heparin, platelets. It causes the platelets to go all over the body and block blood flow, much like blood clots all over your body. My mom had small strokes and a blockage in her finger, which has now turned black and died. My mom is part of a very very small percentage that is not only allergic to Heparin, but absolutely severely allergic. Signs were missed over and over again, and damage was done. No one should be on Heparin for 10 days! She has been in coma since, with minimal waking. She responds to pain, she can open her eyes, she can grasp your hand, and she can move her tongue on command. She's not brain-dead and she's not a vegetable, but she is in coma and we do not know if she will be waking up from this, ever. She is NOT home, despite some rumors going around, and there are no plans for her to ever come home at this point. This is her status for now and into the long-term or short-term foreseeable future. She decides whether she lives or not and her will to live is strong! It pains me to see this because she was doing so well with her recovery. She would be home and walking around right now if mistakes weren't made at the hospital. It makes me so angry, because we got a miracle but had it taken away from us by incompetence.
