Destiny 2's Story and Lore is at a crossroads after The Final Shape. With the massive conclusion to Destiny's first saga, Bungie will need to begin pivoting to whatever comes next. In particular, it's my opinion that Bungie needs to focus on expanding the mysteries of Destiny's universe, which has become to known and familiar to most.
