This new charging connector, made by EVject, could some day save your life. The biggest problem and risk with Supercharging your Tesla today is being tethered to the charger with no way to escape without exiting the vehicle to disconnect.

I love to road trip in our Tesla Model Y, and even in our new Model X. Now we have the bulletproof Tesla Cybertruck, but what good is that if I have to get out to unplug? Regardless of what Tesla I road trip in, I am frequently visiting unfamiliar areas late at night to charge.

In the dark parking lot of a distant supercharger in the middle of the night, sometimes I dont feel safe. If something bad did happen, whether that be getting robbed, mugged or worse, I dont have an effective way to defend myself, nor do I have a safe way to escape. Even recently I was in a Cybertruck and needed to unplug, but the tornado sirens were going off, pouring rain and branches flying. Had I been using an EVject, I could have easily escaped without getting out of the truck.

With this break away device from EVject, I now have a way to escape a potentially dangerous situation. As you may know, when supercharging, you can not put the car in gear until you disconnect. There is no way to get around this, that is until now.

What this device does is allow me to continue to charge at a supercharger as normal, without impacting charging speed, but also to put the car into gear without disconnecting from the supercharger. By selecting the "unlock charging port" on the screen, this device tells the car that the supercharger is no longer connected, and allows me to put our Tesla into gear and leave.

The device is a 1 time use product, in that once you break it, it does not go back together. When you unlock the charge port, you simply put the car in drive, accelerate away from the charger, and the device breaks in half.

One half of the device stays on the charging cable, preventing the handle from impacting the ground and causing damage. The other half of the device stays in the car until you have escaped to a safe area, then you can exit the vehicle and remove the other half.

Due to some smart engineering from the EVject team, this device does not pose a risk of electrocution as it will not direct current either way when exposed. The Supercharger will also not send power to the device without being properly plugged in.

So this product is the first safe alternative to escaping in a dire situation when supercharging.
