Oonsday continues to struggle with balancing his love for raccoons, an unhappy neighbor, and city laws. New information has caused Oonsday to enter a state of cognitive dissonance: discomfort a person feel when their behavior does not align with their values or beliefs. Rules established by leaders in society deem my desire to be hands on with wild animals as wrong and punishable by law. For 40 years I've engaged in this "wrong behavior" yet it is a constant source of joy, caring, and empathy that has molded me into the person I am today. I'm torn by my desire to do the right thing for mankind and animal kind. Severe cognitive dissonance has crept up within and I’m dealing with this sudden news by using sarcasm.
The uncertainty of what lies ahead is causing my thoughts to circle endlessly. The responsibility I feel for my household, my animal friends, my morals, and my viewers has me at an inflection point. I'm trying to game out multiple scenarios and possible consequences. At the end of the day I can really only point the finger at me, but I don't want to and I’m desperately seeking out a scapegoat. My passions and pursuit of happiness does not align with the values of my city. My city has the authority to punish my worldview causing me to yield to its wishes and conform. This is soul crushing.
So this video is me trying to process this cognitive dissonance out loud.
All while 26 raccoons look to me for food and friendship.
