I'm visited during the day by a pregnant raccoon named Cutie Monster. She's not alone. A grumpy one year old named Little Napoleon is there too. Again, they both want my full attention and food. Cutie Monsters method is impossible to resist because she's polite and gentle. Little Napoleon requires tolerance on my part and is a great reminder that wildlife is diverse in its behavior and it's neither wrong nor right. Tolerance on our behalf as humans can go a long way in our efforts to repair nature.
There is a certification process for homeowners to qualify as wildlife friendly properties in my city. I just learned about it, and I'm so excited! Things like native plants, brush piles, wildlife dens and homes, wildlife feeders, etc. are encouraged and help you to qualify. This is what I'm already working on despite a neighbor who's unhappy by it.
