REALTOR® Debbie Arakaki has rallied the real estate community to combat food insecurity in Maui, Hawaii, and now is leading wildfire relief efforts. Her impact on her local community wins the 2023 NAR Good Neighbor Award.

In the state with the nation’s highest food costs, Debbie Arakaki has raised funds to provide 1.05 million meals through the Maui Food Bank. Since 2015, and now in the aftermath of devastating wildfires, Arakaki has rallied the real estate community to host food drives, run fundraisers and volunteer for food-packing events to help fight food insecurity.

The Fall Food Drive is a yearly event featuring broker caravans and virtual and in-person events to support the Maui Food Bank, a nonprofit that collects, warehouses and distributes food to about 177 agencies in Maui County.

About the REALTOR®: Arakaki, a real estate professional for 17 years who also spent 20 years in the restaurant business, has a large sphere to pull from—which was evident during her Fall Food Drive in 2022, when about 50 community volunteers pitched in to help.

The National Association of REALTORS® Good Neighbor Awards recognize REALTORS® who have made an extraordinary impact on their community, or on the national or world stage, through volunteer work.
