Simone Nowicki is a noise maker and so-called "Foley artist". Born in Worms, she creates all her sounds herself in her sound studio and sets them to music in the recording studio or live on stage in front of an audience.

Craftmanship accompanies all her steps in creating the soundtrack for a film scene - starting with the search for materials in her grandmother's cellar, in the DIY store and at the flea market, through the recording of individual sounds and soundscapes to the assembly of all sound levels on the computer. She also explains and shows how sounds are created for animated films or animal documentaries, for example.

Nowicki is currently writing her doctoral thesis in film studies on the history of the craft of foley filmmaking. Female foley artists have worked in secret since the early days of cinema. Little is known about this very female contribution to film history, and she wants to change that. Significantly, the profession is named after one of the first men to practise it: Jack Foley.
