Let's start making retro objects from foam cylinders first. I prepared foam cans and printed stencil layouts.
So that the stencils do not fall off, the jars must be degreased with a solvent. Avoid touching the adhesive base of the film with your hands. It is very difficult to glue the vinyl film from the inside. Therefore, use the life hack from the video. From the inside, the vinyl film should cover without gaps the entire area that the electrolyte can get into.
It is important to remove air bubbles. Just pierce and smooth. Mixed electrolyte. Salt was added to the water until it ceased to dissolve. For 5 liters it takes about one and a half kilograms of salt. In order for the salt to actively corrode the metal, a direct current must be applied. Plus we attach it to the product, it will be the anode, minus we attach it to the cathode. I used a grid as a cathode - if desired, you can change the diameter.
We make the distance between the anode and cathode 2-4 centimeters. Important information.
For uniform through etching, the anode-can along the entire perimeter should be at the same distance with respect to the cathode. The cathode was made from a grid. During pickling, the electrolyte heats up and stagnates in one place.
The areas of metal that should be etched are immersed in the electrolyte 5–10 millimeters deeper than the pattern.
Make sure that the bank is strictly in the center, and then turn on the power supply. The reaction went.
When etching a metal, it is not the voltage that matters, but the current strength. The optimal current strength is 5-6 amperes. With this current strength, the temperature of the solution does not rise above 25 degrees. And the wires don't melt. At temperatures above 35 degrees, stickers may peel off the metal. This is the secret of through metal etching. When etched, hydrogen is released. Every 20 minutes, metal oxide should be brushed off the drawing. The through etching of one product takes about an hour. At the end of the metal etching, we begin to remove the film from the inside. The lines after etching the metal are clear and even. The temperature of the solution during pickling should not rise above 35 degrees. The distance between the anode and cathode during etching should be the same around the entire perimeter. Every 20 minutes, brush off the metal oxide from the pattern. Don't confuse polarity. To the bank - this is the anode, we connect the plus to the grid, we connect the minus.
I do not recommend using voltages above 24 volts.
