DS Automobiles, which left Citroën and declared its independence, expanded its range with a luxury sedan after the 3 Crossback and 7 Crossback models. Being alone for only 6 years, DS introduced its flagship model DS 9.

Beauty is relative, but we think the DS 9 looks extremely stylish. Like the PSA Group's 508, the car, which uses the EMP2 platform, has plenty of chrome trim. Carrying the front of the brand, DS 9 has colored these details in black in the Performance Line package. There are traces of the 3 and 7 models on the back as well, but the 9 has a distinctive and different feel from the 508.

Behind this appearance of the DS 9, which may be a bit of an exaggeration by some, it is a harbinger that DS has designed with Asian markets in mind. The most important example of this is the chrome strip on the hood. On the other hand, the turn signal lamp placed in the rear nods to the original "Citroën DS" model, which is nice.

Although based on the 508, the DS 9 is about 20 cm taller than its cousin. The width of the vehicle, which measures 4.93 meters between the front and rear ends, is 1.85 meters. The rear window design of the car, which is relatively low in height, strengthened the coupe atmosphere.

Under the hood is a set of E-Tense engines. Getting 225 hp from the combination of the 1.6-liter PureTech unit and the electric motor, the DS 9 will be able to travel 40 or 50 km purely electric, according to WLTP norms, thanks to its 11.9 kWh battery with this combination. The electric motor integrated into the eight-speed fully automatic EAT8 gearbox produces 80 kW (110 hp) and 320 Nm of torque, while the battery that feeds it can be charged in 1.5 hours with 7.4 kW chargers.

The DS 9, which will be released in the first stage with only 225 hp version, will later get the E-Tense's front-wheel drive 250 hp and all-wheel drive 360 ​​hp packages. Meanwhile, DS will also sell the 1.6 PureTech 225, which produces the same power as the hybrid version, but without electrical support (which runs on the 508 GT).

DS has given a lot of weight to the technology wing in its new sedan 9. Equipped with "Drive Assist" technology, which provides Level 2 autonomous driving in DS 9, which has a number of driving assistance systems that we know from the 7 Crossback. On the other hand, the night vision system and the DS Park Pilot, which can detect a parking space up to 30 km/h and perform the operation on its own by simply holding down a button, took its place in the 9's arsenal.

The active suspension system called DS Active Scan Suspension, on the other hand, will scan the road ahead with the help of cameras and feed information to the suspension system together with the sensors, thus pre-adjusting the shock absorber and spring elements of the vehicle, ensuring that comfort and safety are not compromised.

DS has not yet announced the prices of its new sedan 9. The 250 hp E-Tense version of the sedan, which will be produced in China, will be sold directly in that market. The vehicles are expected to go on sale in the second half of 2020.
