Going back to the Puth I suppose! I assure you the next cover I do is not a Puth one. I had to put this one out though since I feel there was no better time to do so then this week. Man, this was an incredible song when it first came out in 2018 and now five years later, the song really hits on a deeper level having grown up these years.

Back then it was my anthem and everytime I had this song on, it felt like a confidence boost coming into university in my first year. Ahh, amateur days. Over the years I kinda forgot about the song till recently. “The Way I Am” to me, is about the struggles I had in those years in becoming more introverted. Not that I don’t like socialisation, but the wish for meaningful connection with people.

After restarting in 2020, I’ve come to terms with learning to love being alone. Those two years post were of solitude, healing and refreshment. From that, God opened the door for me these last few years with new friendships online through the CP fandom, my other interests and university as well as keeping the bonds with those who’ve been by my side these few years and never left me.

Starting this year and as of this video being uploaded having just turned 22, this song is the self realisation that I do not need to follow fame, nor the culture, nor follow peer pressure from people who lead me the wrong way. I feel so secure, healed and better mentally then where I was years ago. “You could either hate me or love me, but that’s just The Way I Am!”.
