So, the Super Mario Brothers movie just released, and it’s a lot of fun. It’s not some mind blowing experience or anything, but the animation is gorgeous, Jack Black as Bowser and Charlie Day as Luigi are standouts, and clearly the movie was made with a ton of love for the Mario games and the character.

And with this movie comes the possibility of other Nintendo franchises that could be adapted onto film. Kirby, Metroid, Star Fox, but the one that really got me thinking was the potential of a movie based on The Legend of Zelda.

Zelda is one of Nintendo’s biggest properties, and is ripe with potential for an adaptation. There are a lot of things that worked and a lot of things that didn’t work about the Mario movie, and I think that Nintendo could apply those lessons in order to try and get Zelda onto the big screen. Especially if they were able to get someone like Studio Ghibli to make it.
