This song is about Brazilian formula 1 driver Emerson Fittipaldi. After winning the world championship in 1972 in a stunning fashion, Zé Roberto wrote 'Lotus 72D' (The car Emerson drove in) in an attempt to encapsulate the events of the race, which brought great pride to Brazilian fans around the world. The track was released as a 7" single by RCA Victor in 1973, and very few copies were pressed. Today it is one of the rarest records on the market which still didn't receive any reissue.

This video features racing car artist Michael Turner.
