In this video, I show the assembly of two recent electronic kits produced by Evil Mad Scientist on California, their "555SE" and "741SE". These are electronically the same as their older "Three Fives" and "741XL" kits, which used discrete resistors and transistors to duplicate the internal functionality of the famous and widely used 555 timer and 741 op-amp integrated circuits (those older kits now seem to have been discontinued, although perhaps this may be temporary). The "SE" versions are physically smaller, and use surface mount components instead of through-hole components, but otherwise the two versions of each kit are the same. Finally, I demonstrate the kits in operation in real-world 555 and 741 circuits.
