With this model Maserati is making its return to international racing. However, the MC12 is not homologated by the ACO and therefore cannot claim a place in the 24 Hours of Le Mans or in the Le Mans Series. In the hands of the Vitaphone Racing Team, it won five FIA GT titles for Maserati and also won the Spa 24 Hours. The 2007 season marked the car's appearance in the American Le Mans Series, via Doran Racing in the GT1 class, where the official Corvette C6-Rs are usually alone.
