My company, Dependable Concrete LLC, was hired to replace this damaged and unsafe walkway with a new concrete walkway, and in this short video I will demonstrate to you step by step how I completed this job.

After demoing the concrete we replace the vent water or gas covers.
These vents were missing covers and were clogged with soil and trash.

For the right fit, i prefer using a 4” flex hose

For durability, I prefer using air entrained 4000psi concrete integrated with fiber mesh

It’s important to protect the plumbing covers from the wet concrete

To level the walkway, I screed the concrete using a long 2x4 straight edge

For jointing, I prefer to snap a chalk line as a guide to guarantee a straight line when installing A long joint

At the first stage of finishing the concrete I apply our joint lines using a bull-float jointer along with a 2x4 as a guide for straight joint lines .

Once the concrete is poured, I begin the process of removing the protect wrapping and setting the vent covers flush with the concrete.

After the concrete has dried enough to prevent deep impressions, , I begin the second stage of finishing. Which includes applying tools for jointing, troweling and edging.

At the final stage of finishing the I begin texturing the concrete with a broom finish.

With a finisher ahead troweling the concrete, another finisher is behind applying the broom finish.

Concrete dries very quickly so it's important to be efficient
A broom finish is the ideal finish to prevent slip and falls. A broom finish also provides an even and uniformed look to the concrete.

The more time you allow the concrete to dry the less aggressive will be brush marks from the bristles

For driveways and inclines, you would broom sooner for an aggressive finish

Its important to prepare the surface for a broom finish, the surface must be free of holes or trowel marks, the broom will not completely remove these marks. For a professional looking job, straight broom lines should be the final look.

We fine tune the plumbing caps the sit flush with the concrete.

When brooming concrete, the bristles collect cement, therefore, it's important to continuously clean the bristles with water. A broom loaded with cement leaves trails of cement when pulling the broom across the surface.

Clean bristles will give the job a clean and professional finish.
