If you were to be granted three wishes by a genie, you should obviously include a wish for more wishes. Solving big long run problems by first working to maximize the number of problem solvers available follows a similar logic. More people means more ideas, more solutions.

More people and ideas also means more innovation, more productivity, more growth. In a 2019 paper titled “Paul Romer: Ideas, Nonrivalry, and Endogenous Growth” , Stanford’s Charles Jones writes that: “... an economy with more people will be richer.”

Canada has a population of just under 38 million. Imagine if we could triple that number to over 100 million by 2100.

A vision for 100 million Canadians is big and bold. Equally big and bold will be the steps that we’ll need to take to prepare for and realize that vision. On December 2nd, author and Globe & Mail columnist Doug Saunders will be presenting on this important idea, and what it could mean for our country’s future.
