It's 2019. An this means that exactly 50 years ago the most famous racing prototype made its world debut. During this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed 11 Porsche 917s gathered to celebrate their 50th anniversary.
Among these there was chassis 917-030, considered the first ever race car to be fitted with an ABS system too. It was built in 1971 and raced by Martini Racing Team only during that year. It returned back to Porsche factory for further ABS testing and then put into storage.

A few years later Count Gregorio Rossi di Montelera, who was the heir to the Martini & Rossi distilling fortune (and great sponsor of Porsche in motorsport), to satisfy a personal desire asked Porsche to convert a 917K to street use. Not much work was done on the chosen chassis (917-030): it was simply painted in silver, a pair of mufflers were added and they removed the rear tailfins. Plus the spartan interiors were re-trimmed in beige leather.

But the main problem was finding a country willing to register a prototype racing car. It was a straight "no" in Germany, French authorities wanted him to crash-test the car first, so he tried Italy, where it should've been possible (with the right cash-laden envelopes), but even they turned their back.
In the end, the car was taken to Alabama where they granted it the licence plate, 61-27737. But at one condition: that the car could never come close to the state-border.

917-030 always remained in Count Rossi's hands until he passed away in 2003 when his son, Manfredo, took ownership of the car. He received many offers by interested buyers since then and apparently he refused one in excess of $40 million recently.
"030" was last road-registered on Texas plates which have now since expired. This means that the car cannot actually be driven on the road at this moment in time.
