Avatar: The Way of Water will be in cinemas imminently and it's a damn good thing too for cinemas - recent box office failures such as She Said and The Fablemans, which in the past perhaps could have done well, in today's box office climate are fumbling, becoming massive box office bombs in the process.

What's changing about cinema and what audiences are prepared to pay for in order to see? In this short video I theorise that it's nothing really wrong what these films are doing - it's the sheer fact they are so grounded in reality, it's putting audiences off. Audiences need to escape in this modern world and so far the only film coming up that's going to do it for them is Avatar 2.
